The Origins of Ceroc
At Ceroc classes we teach an exciting and stylish form of modern jive which is a fusion of Jive and Salsa and was developed in France after its introduction by American GI's at the end of the Second World War. Since the early 80’s Ceroc classes have developed their own unique style which makes modern jive easy to learn and great fun. With its emphasis on socialising as well as dance, the warm and friendly atmosphere of a Ceroc night is ideal for beginners. Classes are rotated, so you don't have to come with a partner, and the Ceroc etiquette is such that all are encouraged to dance with everybody else, whether novices or experts.
Ceroc moves
There are over 500 moves to learn (just 18 are classed as Beginners' moves). They vary in difficulty and style, some more acrobatic, some sexier, but more importantly, all fun to learn and to dance. Ceroc teachers will select a new routine every week to ensure you always get a challenging and fun night.
Clothing
You do not need any particular clothing to attend a Ceroc evening. Just come as you are, wearing comfortable clothes and footwear that will allow you to move freely on the dance floor. Remember that you will get quite hot, so a change of top is usually a good idea.
Music
All Ceroc nights have a DJ in control who will play a wide range of dance and chart music. We pride ourselves in offering a good and varied selection of music throughout the night and keeping our music collection up to date.
Qualified Teachers
Ceroc teachers have all passed several demanding training courses to qualify as members of the Ceroc Teachers Association (C.T.A.). Your teachers are all excellent dancers and through their dedication and training will make sure you learn fast and have a good time doing so. Teachers are keen for you to enjoy the night, so don't be afraid to ask them for a dance!
Keeping Track of the Moves
It only takes a few weeks to progress to the Intermediate class, as by then you will have covered most of the Beginners' moves. The best way to learn is to dance as much as possible, so why not use the Freestyle Session to ask as many people as you can for a dance? To help you keep track of the moves, a record card is available from Reception.
Weekend Workshops
Cerocshops, which take place on Sundays at the usual Wythall venue, are available at Beginners and Intermediate levels.
The Beginners Cerocshops are designed for people with little or no experience of Ceroc and give you a good start and a solid foundation to help you on your way.
The Intermediate Cerocshops are the next stage and assume you are already confident with beginners moves. They each cover 12 moves and will give you ideas to improve your freestyle.
Full information on all Cerocshops and application forms are available from reception.
Admission prices
The admission price is £7.00 for our normal weekly class nights and £8.00 for weekend freestyles.
